In Bulgaria three trainers have been active to support downchildren in orphanages.
Speech-therapists and physiotherapists are unemployed or don't have much work to do. The economical situation is really bad. Parents can't afford to buy in extra help for their handicapped child. Government is not financially supportive.
DKI tried to convince the government of the importance of developping the livingcondition of this group of people. Unfortunately nothing happens.
The Lionsclub in Sofia is not supportive anymore.
At this moment, for the Bulgarian peoples, "self sufficiency" is the most important thing of all.

Trainings will be finished in 2010. Around December 2010 the fifth, and we will have our last training in Bulgaria; three professionals will be certified. In Sofia we support a promovenda in Down therapy. She will provide us of enough information. We will try to realize a knowledge-centre in which Bulgaria, and surrounding countries can share knowledge and can get information about Down. We are looking at the possibilities of integrating a food program in the orphanage of Pleven.
